Ancestral is much more than a fine dining address: it is an invitation to savour and reconnect with the essence of French culinary traditions. In the heart of the Doutre, the historic district of Angers, chef Kévin Bougard celebrates the richness of produce from the region and beyond, carefully chosen from suppliers committed to ethical and sustainable practices.

Ancestral's cuisine is a tribute to the terroir, with a menu that evolves with the seasons and highlights creative dishes that respect raw ingredients. Each plate is designed to tell a story—of a product, a producer, and a tradition reimagined with modernity and finesse.

Here, gastronomy and authenticity come together to offer every guest a moment in perfect harmony with the values of sharing, rooted in the history of French gastronomy and the discovery—or rediscovery—of ancestral dishes and know-how.

At Ancestral, every product has a story, and every supplier is an essential partner. The restaurant sources exclusively from local producers, selected for their environmentally and traditionally respectful approach.

This approach is recognized by the 3 Ecotables label, which distinguishes establishments most committed to eco-responsible dining, involving rigorous management of sourcing, waste, and overall environmental impact.

The wine list

The Ancestral wine list is a journey through terroirs, blending local discoveries with more distant horizons. Organic, biodynamic and living wines take pride of place, reflecting the same philosophy of authenticity and respect for nature as the restaurant's cuisine.

Anjou holds a special place, with cuvées that celebrate the skill of local winemakers. Alongside them, wines from Portugal enrich the selection, offering a diversity of tastes and styles to accompany every dish with precision and daring.
